Minnetonka HS pays tribute to students killed in apparent murder-suicide

- There was a moment of silence during Minnetonka High School's home football game Friday night as the community remembered three students killed in an apparent murder-suicide.

Minnetonka High School students Cole, 17, Madison, 15, and Brooklyn Short were among five family members found dead Thursday afternoon at their home in Greenwood, Minnesota on Lake Minnetonka. South Lake Minnetonka Police Chief Mike Sitari said all five family members had been shot.

Students and staff at the high school also observed a moment of silence during the school day Friday to honor their classmates.

In a letter to parents, Principal Jeffrey Erickson said the close-knot school community is devastated by the tragic deaths. Guidance counselors are available to talk with students, he said.

“This is an incredibly difficult time for our school community,” Erickson said in the letter. “Our strength as a community is how we support each other and come together as a community during difficult times.”

All students at the high school are encouraged to wear blue on Monday for “Tonka Unity Day,” in remembrance of their classmates, the Associated Press reported.
