ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - St. Paul Police arrested six people in Carty Park in St. Paul, who were protesting the fatal shooting of Philando Castile, after they refused to leave when the park closed.
The St. Paul Police Public Information Officer said a group of about 30 to 40 protesters wanted to set up tents and make a camp in Carty Park, also known as the People’s Park. Encampments are against city regulation.
Officers arrived around 11 p.m., the park’s closing time, to ask the group to leave. Most of the people left the park, but six people did not and were arrested about a half hour later. Two of the people were booked and four were cited and released.
Police say the protesters had multiple opportunities to leave without arrest.
