MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - Minneapolis police are investigating the shooting death of a 19-year-old man riding a bicycle Wednesday morning on the 2500 block of Logan Avenue N. Officers responded to a report of shots fired around 7:30 a.m. and found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to North Memorial Medical Center, where he later died.
Family members confirmed the identity of the victim as Tabyis Paskins. Richard Shumpert said his nephew was cutting between two of their family’s homes when the shooting occurred.
“People out here killing each other. For what?" said Paskins' uncle, Richard Shumpert. "What did you accomplish by killing that young man? What did you accomplish? Nothing."
Witnesses said Paskins was riding with a friend and was apparently chased by a red Jeep with several people inside. At least one person fired a shot as they drove by. Paskins was struck and eventually collapsed to the ground near 26th Avenue N. and Logan Avenue N., right in front of a road construction crew.
“That’s 3 in a month," said neighbor Joel Smith. "We had one get shot at 26th and Irving, a shooting last week in front of my house. Sick. My house goes on the market tomorrow. No kidding.”
Minneapolis police said homicide investigators have "good leads" in this case and are interviewing several people. Two bicycles and casings from the gunfire remained in the the street as officers blocked off the area to investigate. Police have not yet revealed whether or not arrests have been made.
