Blaine police chase ends with multiple crashes in Andover

A police chase that began in Blaine ended with multiple crashes in Andover.

Anoka County dispatch tells us the incident began with a report of a burglary in Blaine. A car matching the description of the suspect's car was spotted, and the suspect fled into Andover.

Three Anoka County sheriff's squads attempted PIT maneuvers to stop the suspect, but he continued driving and "there were many impacts between ACSO squads" and the suspect before he was finally stopped in the 132nd block of northbound Hanson Boulevard near Bunker Lake Boulevard.

UPDATE - The suspect, St. Francis man Randy Thomas Vaught, 34, was arrested before 4 p.m. but has not been charged. He has been booked at the Anoka County Jail.

Four ambulances were called to the scene. A mother and her infant were among the injured after Vaught hit them head-on as he was westbound on Bunker Lake Boulevard.

"Today, Mr. Vaught made a conscious decision to compromise the safety and security of our citizens. Following Mr. Vaught's having victimized our citizens, he then chose to create an even worse situation as he fled law enforcement and endangered others. I am grateful that no one was seriously injured as this event could have ended in tragedy," Anoka County Sheriff James Stuart said.

This case is under investigation by the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, the Blaine Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.
