Minnesota fire chief dies in tractor accident following firemen's dance

- Goodhue County Fire Chief Mike Kehren, 58, was killed in a tractor-wagon accident on July 4 following a Firemen's Dance in Wanamingo, Minn.

According to the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office, Kehren was riding on a hay wagon around 1:50 a.m. that was being used to transport people after the firefighter's dance. After dropping a group of people off, the tractor driver turned southbound onto Nelson Drive when "several wagon passengers started yelling at him to stop."

Police said Kehren had gotten onto the tow bar between the two hay wagons and fell, striking his head on the pavement. He was then run over by the second wagon and pronounced dead at the scene.

"The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office sends our thoughts and prayers to the Goodhue Fire Department with the unexpected passing of Fire Chief Mike Kehren," the sheriff's department posted Tuesday on Facebook. "Thank You Chief Kehren for your dedication and service to the citizens of Goodhue and the surrounding townships serviced by the Goodhue Fire Department. R.I.P. Chief."
