Gilpin pleads guilty to attempted murder in Chaska shooting

- A man who attempted to murder his child's mother and shot his father in Chaska in October has pleaded guilty.

Carver County District Court Judge Kevin Eide sentenced 39-year-old Joshua Lee Gilpin to more than 27 years in prison. Gilpin pleaded guilty to both attempted first degree murder and first degree assault. He received the maximum sentence of 331 months.

In October, Gilpin and his father drove to a Chaska home to drop off Gilpin's four-year-old son with the boy's mother, who also was Gilpin's ex-girlfriend.

Gilpin was jealous she was dating someone else. In the driveway, Gilpin shot his ex-girlfriend through the back of her neck as she tried to run away. She miraculously survived.

Gilpin's father then tried to wrestle the gun away from him, so Gilpin shot him in the chest. The bullet is still lodged in the man's liver.

The four-year-old boy witnessed the entire incident.
