MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - Minneapolis police are investigating after a 19-year-old woman was found fatally shot inside a vehicle late Monday night.
At 11:15 p.m., police responded to a reported shooting at 1800 Penn Avenue North and found a woman inside a vehicle. She died shortly after being transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. Her identity has not been released. No arrests have been made.
Investigators are conducting interviews, including people who were in the car with her. On Tuesday, officers will be in the neighborhood to discuss the crime, and police said community members are strongly encouraged to speak with them.
Just over one month ago, a 59-year-old grandmother, Birdell Beeks, was shot and killed by a stray bullet that entered her vehicle at the intersection of Penn Avenue North and 21st Avenue in broad daylight -- not far from Monday night's shooting. Police have not said if the incidents are related in any way.
On June 4, more than 100 people, including Beeks' family, marched down West Broadway in North Minneapolis in a stand against gun violence.
“The message is that the community is tired. We’re tired of the violence,” Salesha Beeks, the daughter of Beeks, said.
