MENOMONIE, Wis. (KMSP) - Dunn County sheriff’s deputies, Menomonie firefighters and Wisconsin DNR officers are continuing to search for a man who went missing on the Red Cedar River early Tuesday evening.
At 5:33 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, the Dunn County sheriff received a report that a man fell out of a boat near an area known as the Russian Slough. First responders learned the man was actually walking on the edge of the river and slipped into the water. Rescue efforts by the people he was were unsuccessful due to the fast moving current.
The recent rains made Tuesday’s river search very difficult due to the high water and strong currents in the area. The search was suspended at dark for the safety of the searchers and resumed Wednesday morning.
The Dunn County sheriff’s office is asking the public to stay out of that area of the river and the Russian Slough during the search operations to allow emergency personnel to work efficiently.
