Saks Off Fifth signs lease in Minneapolis City Center

Good news for Saks Off Fifth fans, the retailer announced Tuesday that it signed a lease in the retail portion of the Minneapolis City Center -- continuing its 25-year presence in downtown Minneapolis.

The outlet store known for its high end designer apparel decided last year to close its downtown doors at Gaviidae Common, which took place Jan. 17.

"This city has been a strong market for us," Jonathan Greller, President of Outlets, HBC, said. "Minneapolis City Center provides us with a vibrant location in which to serve our exceedingly loyal customers."

Formerly occupied by Office Depot and a portion of the skyway level, the new 40,321 square foot space is slated to open April 2016.

"Saks Fifth Avenue Off Fifth is a tremendous addition to the retail component of Minneapolis City Center and we continue to see strong interest in the remaining ground-floor space from other national and regional stores," Glenn Shannon, president of Shorenstein Properties, said.  "We believe that tenant interest will absolutely be enhanced as a result of this addition to the project."

The store will be located near the main entrance of the center, at 6th St. and Nicollet Mall.
