Chilly May weekend

- Every time we warm to the 70s, 80s, and 90s through the spring, we bask in the sentiment that cold temperatures won’t come back until the fall.  But then Mother Nature decides to change her mind.  This weekend was the result with near record cold temperatures felt across the region.  Temps plummeted to the upper teens in some cases, but 20’s and low 30s were widespread.  Here is a look at the lowest temperatures record across much of the area over the weekend…

While this late season freeze was a bit jarring, it wasn’t all that uncommon.  The usual last freeze for the metro and much of the southern half of Minnesota is in the first 10 days of the month.  For the North Country, it’s even later with the North Shore area averaging their last freeze in the last few days of May.  So while the frosty temperatures seem a bit unusual, in fact, they’re just a few days behind what we consider normal…
