MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - Travelers leaving Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport can now open their Uber app and request a lower-priced UberX car. Uber confirmed that UberX pickups at MSP Airport begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 21. Travelers wishing to use Uber to depart the airport previously had to use the higher-priced Uber Black option, which sends a black town car to the pre-arranged limousine area.
UberX pick-ups will be in the prearranged transportation area, with a new $6 airport pick-up fee. Curbside pickup are not yet permitted.
“We have heard from hundreds of riders and drivers who have expressed a need for UberX at MSP Airport,” said a statement from Uber Minnesota general manager Kenny Tsai. “Today, we’re excited to be able to bring the option of UberX to MSP Airport to better serve those customers.”
The inclusion of Uber at the airport has been fiercely opposed by taxi companies. Cab drivers say their operations are highly regulated, including upfront fees that are paid for the privilege to pick-up travelers at the airport.
