Costa Rican shelter cares for more than 700 dogs

- A tranquil and peaceful oasis in Costa Rica is overrun by hundreds of man's best friend.

The sanctuary, or shelter, known as "Territorio de Zaguates" is home to dogs once mistreated, and some strays. All of the animals are waiting to be adopted.

During the day, the animals are allowed to roam freely in parts of the mountains.

This refuge was created eight years ago by a couple in Costa Rica and is now home to more than 700 dogs. It is the largest place of its kind in the region.

The shelter pays for the food and medical attention with donations from private companies and the public. Volunteers spend countless hours feeding, bathing and showering them with affection.
