UPDATE: 12-year-old girl dies in drowning Friday evening
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (KMSP) - The 12-year-old girl who died in an apparent drowning Friday evening in Alexandria has been identified as JaLysa Anne Cook.
The Douglas County sheriff’s office responded to a call around 5:30 p.m. reporting that a young girl was in the water channel between Lakes Cowdry and Darling in Alexandria. According to the release, search efforts began immediately, and the girl was located around 6:10 p.m. in about three feet of water.
Responders started CPR immediately, and the girl was transported to a nearby hospital. But, life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.
Friends and family have started a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral expenses and assist the family.
The incident remains under investigation.
