5-year-old boy dies after rolling ATV near Spicer, Minn.

- A 5-year-old boy died at HCMC on Monday after flipping an ATV at his grandparents house Saturday near Spicer, family confirmed.

Kandiyohi County sheriff’s officials responded to the crash around 5:15 p.m. near 11925 42nd Street NE on the southwest side of George Lake, where pre-schooler Wesley Needham appeared to have left the road and overturned a 2003 Polaris Sportsman 4-wheeler.

"He is my life, my world," Wesley's mom Danielle Needham told Fox 9. "I have no clue what I am going to do. I live and breathe for him.”

Wesley was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital and later transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he passed away from traumatic injuries two days later.

The Needhams are trying to piece together what happened when the 5-year-old somehow got his hands on the key to his grandpa’s ATV. The assumption is he figured out how to get it started, then went on some sort of joyride through the neighborhood a few blocks away without anyone realizing it.

"You need to hug your kids and tell them 'I love you' as much as possible because the one thing I can’t regret is the fact that I told my son I love him before he walked out the door," Danielle said.

Danielle said she wasn't around at the time of her son's fatal crash.

"Accidents do happen but if you can do anything to prevent this, watch your kids. Don’t take your eyes off them. Just watch them because in a blink of an eye, your world can crash around you."

Friends and loved ones from Wesley's hometown of Kerkhoven, Minn. surrounded the bedside vigil at HCMC on Sunday, many were decked out in Wesley's favorite, camouflage.

Funeral plans are set for this weekend in Kerkhoven. Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident.
