Drunk, texting driver busted on Highway 12 thanks to 911 call

- A 911 call helped stop a drunk, texting driver on Highway 12 in Independence, Minn., preventing another possible crash on a highway that has been plagued by tragedy.

Thursday afternoon, a driver called 911 to report a car weaving all over the road near Independence, Minn. West Hennepin Public Safety officers located the car, which was crossing over the centerline into oncoming traffic, nearly causing a head on crash. The driver admitted to drinking in the car while driving and texting while driving. The driver was arrested for DWI at 4:10 p.m., with a blood alcohol content of .12.

“The 4 E's of traffic safety are Enforcement, Engineering, Education, and EMS. But the 5th is EVERYONE,” West Hennepin Public Safety wrote on Facebook. “We need everyone to help in keeping our roads safe. Thank you to the caller for calling in on 911, staying behind the car, giving the license plate and description, and alerting us to this dangerous situation.”
