Here comes the warm up

- We have been talking about it for nearly a week now and it’s finally here… our warmer temperatures.  The overall pattern is changing across the country with warmer air getting pushed further north and east than it otherwise should this time of the year and temperatures are likely to be some 20 degrees above average for a few days.  It has to do with a trough that’s diving into the west coast.  That throws a kink in the jet stream which then pushes the warmer air northward and into the Upper Midwest.  Just look at the next few days…

The ridge builds across the central portions of the country as a trough dives into the west coast.  What will likely be different than our previous warm up is it will come with some humidity.  What???  In March??? You got it! Southerly winds will grab hold of the central US and open the Gulf of Mexico (The term “opening the Gulf” refers to southerly winds bringing in warm moist air from over the tropical-like waters of the Gulf of Mexico, just like swinging a door open in the winter and having the really cold air come pouring in).  This “opening” will push 50 degree dewpoints all the way up into Minnesota.  Check it out…
