Family fireworks, cultural identity mix in Guthrie's 'Familiar'

This is far from your average drama.  Wrapped in comedy, the Guthrie Theater's new production of Familiar features family fireworks interwoven with questions of cultural identity.

The play, written by award-winning playwright Danai Gurira (star of Black Panther and "The Walking Dead"), tells the tale of a Zimbabwean-American family preparing for their daughter's wedding.  But like every good wedding a few bumps appear along the way -- in the case of Familiar a surprise guest and a family secret threaten to unravel all.

The FOX 9 BUZZ recently welcomed two actors in the show, Sha Cage and Aishe Keita, for a discussion about the production.  You can watch their recent appearance above.

Familiar runs through April 14 at the Guthrie.  For tickets, visit guthrietheater.org or by calling 612-377-2224.
