INVESTIGATORS: Nurse questions integrity of U of M drug researchers

The Fox 9 Investigators have new information in their ongoing investigation of human research practices at the University of Minnesota. A hospital insider has come forward with secret recordings, and that information is raising more questions about drug studies done on people with mental illness.

Niki Gjere has worked at the U of M Medical Center at Fairview Riverside hospital for 22 years, and she's risking it all by talking to the Fox 9 Investigators.

"I came to you because I wanted to make sure that this is told," Gjere said. "You don't speak against the University and not pay somehow."

She is troubled about drug research done on extremely vulnerable patients in the University of Minnesota program that's been clouded in controversy for more than a decade.

"I want somebody to pay attention and really investigate and really evaluate what happened then, and what's happening now," Gjere told Fox 9 Investigator Jeff Baillon.

Watch the video to hear more from Gjere and listen to excerpts of her secret recordings made while she met with University of Minnesota officials.
