Hundreds help send family of Officer Scott Patrick to national memorial

An all-day fundraiser Saturday will help send the family of an officer killed in the line of duty to Washington D.C. to visit a national memorial for slain officers. Mendota Heights Officer Scott Patrick was shot during a routine traffic stop last July.

Saturday, an annual tournament that raises money for families of slain officers will donate all the proceeds to Patrick's family. Events started at 8:30 a.m. with a basketball tournament at Henry Sibley High School, and the day will wrap-up with a comedy show in Bloomington.

Officer Patrick's family will use the money to go to Washington next month, where Scott will be honored. To contribute, visit

A bill introduced at the Minnesota Capitol this year would designate a stretch of Dodd Road as Officer Scott Patrick Memorial Highway. Dodd Road was a regular route on Officer Patrick's beat, and it was the location of his final day of duty.
