Stillwater's Boutwell House saved with sale to historical society

The historic Boutwell House in Stillwater, Minn., which was slated for demolition, has been saved by the Washington County Historical Society. The historical society has purchased the home at 12588 Boutwell Road, closing on the sale at 9 a.m. Thursday.

History of the Boutwell House

The Boutwell home has stood since 1870. William T. Boutwell was a missionary, settling in Stillwater Township after he accompanied Henry Schoolcraft in exploring northern Minnesota, even naming the Mississippi headwaters, Lake Itasca.

Celebratory blessing

Rev. Cader Howard of the First Presbyterian Church of Stillwater will bless the home Thursday, reading from one of Rev. Boutwell's bibles that has been preserved by the historical society.

HGTV "Rehab Addict" Nicole Curtis played a major role in the saving of the Boutwell House. Curtis worked with previous owner Joel Adamic to halt demolition and explore options of a sale to preserve the historic property.
