Stearns County teen strikes wandering cow on the road

A Stearns County teen struck a cow in the road just before midnight on Wednesday. Luckily, the driver and the passenger weren't seriously hurt, though the condition of the cow is unknown at this time.

Jamie Marie Scherer, 19, was driving on County Road 33 just south of County Road 16 in Zion Township with 16-year -old Miranda Kay Scherer in the passenger seat. Scherer collided into the cow, who is owned by Paynesville man Stephen Ludwig Gottwald, 65, and the 16-year-old was cut by broken glass. She was checked by medical personnel and didn’t need to be hospitalized. Both were wearing seatbelts.

Fox 9 is awaiting confirmation on the condition of the cow.
