Southwest Light Rail opponents make argument in federal court

A federal judge will hear arguments Monday from a concerned group of citizens who are suing to stop the advancement of the Southwest Light Rail Transit project. The new light rail line will run from Minneapolis to Eden Prairie, Minn.

The Lakes and Parks Alliance claims the SWLRT line will hurt the Kenilworth Trail and surrounding lakes in Minneapolis. The group claims the project violates state and federal law, since the latest design was approved before the environmental impact study was finished.

Last month, the Metropolitan Council filed a motion to have the lawsuit thrown out.
