Same-sex couple in Wisconsin sues over son's birth certificate

A same-sex couple from Madison, Wisconsin has filed a federal discrimination lawsuit after the state failed to put the names of both parents on their baby's birth certificate.

Chelsea and Jessamy Torres welcomed baby Asher on March 15. Chelsea was the birth mother, and both parents listed their names on the birth certificate. But the certificate that arrived in the mail left off Jessamy's name.

The couple says the state of Wisconsin's practice of listing opposite-sex parents on birth certificates, but not same-sex parents, is discriminatory.

Chelsea and Jessamy were married in New York in 2012.
