Remembering Shakopee's war veterans brick by brick

Shakopee's Memorial Park has a special walkway showcasing names of the community's veterans who passed away. A Memorial Day ceremony served as a reminder of those 250 names on walkway bricks of veterans who never came back home. Ken Grunst is just trying to make sure they're not forgotten.

For the past 12 years, he has taken orders for custom bricks, each one engraved with a veteran's name. Meticulously placed by hand, this year, he's putting in 19 bricks and spent hours clearing off the walkway before the Memorial Day ceremony. A U.S. Army veteran himself, Grunst wants to ensure no one in his community is left behind, and until his time comes, he'll be there serving again in his own way.

How to donate

Grunst takes the orders while Twin City Brick does all the engraving for $25. If you're interested in ordering a brick for next year, checks should be made payable to the American Legion.
