RECORD WARMTH: First 80 of the season in Minneapolis

A combination of strong southerly winds in excess of 40 mph, sunshine, and some compressional heating ahead of our cold front, was the perfect recipe for the Twin Cities to reach record territory. The mercury soared into the 80s all across the Upper Midwest early Wednesday afternoon. MSP Airport set a new record high of 84 degrees.

The temperature at 4 pm was still at 80 after peaking at 82 earlier in the afternoon. The sun and temp along with the wind speed can be seen on the FOX 9 towercam shot.

This is the first time we have seen an 80 since late September and ahead of the average first 80 date of May 1.
