Sheriff's officials confirmed a 30-year-old Cottage Grove man driving a cement truck was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center for burns and minor injuries after the crash on Tuesday afternoon.

Crews were dispatched to the collision site at County Road 2 just east of Highway 21 at 2:03 p.m. A 2005 International truck hauling a trailer was driving east on County Road 2 and stopped at the crossing, where there is a stop sign. The truck then drove onto the tracks and was struck by the northbound Union Pacific train. The train did not derail, but the truck started on fire.

No one on the train was hurt and it was not hauling any hazardous materials. Sheriff's officials are investigating the incident and the injured man's identity has not been released. At 5 p.m., the Scott County sheriff's office said County Road 2 between State Highway 21 and County Road 15 "will be closed into the evening."
