One of the coldest nights of the season, followed by more cold

It was a chilly start on Wednesday and Thursday will be even colder.

It has actually been a mild winter here in Minnesota so far this season. We had a below freezing streak back in November and a few shots of frigid air here and there, but for the most part this season hasn't been too challenging. So far this winter season, our coldest temperature has been -11°. Tonight we will re-visit that neighborhood with another chance to hit the teens below.

The big dip in the jet, and the big blizzards in New England, are doing their part to keep the eastern half of the country in the deep freeze, while the western half is being treated to some Indian summer. Its here in the Upper Midwest that we're doing a little double dipping. The wavering jet stream will briefly slide to our North to end the work week with a shot of warmth before plunging back to the south, opening the doors for another cold blast, just in time for the weekend.

The average High will hit the 32° mark on Monday; however, don't look for the mercury to follow suit anytime soon.
