Hennepin County sheriff's 'Swap Spots' a safe haven for personal transactions

Ever purchased or sold an item on Craigslist and wondered if the person on the other end could kill you? To combat online purchasing crime, the Hennepin County sheriff's office unveiled “Swap Spots,” public safe havens where members of the community can go to make a variety of transactions.

Where to find a Swap Spot

Swap Spots are located in the lobby areas of:

-Sheriff's Water Patrol, 4141 Shoreline Drive, Spring Park, MN
-Enforcement Services Division, 9401 83rd Ave. N., Brooklyn Park, MN
-Public Safety Facility, 401 S. 4th Ave., Minneapolis, MN

Swap Spots are only available during normal hours of operation and designated by a blue and red logo. A deputy is not required to monitor each exchange, will not facilitate the transaction, and won't keep a log of transactions, but if you would like a deputy present, the sheriff’s office said they’ll try to accommodate you.

What they’re used for

Swap Spots can be used for various transactions, even with people:

-Child custody exchanges
-Retrieve property from family members or acquaintances
-Online transactions

Safety tips from the sheriff’s office

-Tell a friend or family member where you are going and when you plan to be back
-If possible, have someone go with you
-Take your cell phone with you and make sure it’s on
-Always trust your instincts
