Fairy tale marriage proposal in Rice Park with surprise serenade

Serendipity blessed Alicia Enstad and Joshua Lehrer's engagement Saturday in the heart of St. Paul's Rice Park.

"I was so nervous that everything wasn't going to go right, because she ended up getting off of work late," Joshua said.

Because Alicia had to work overtime, the surprise proposal started two hours later than originally planned. First, Josh sent a limo to pick up Alicia and her sister, under the guise of a girl's night out. Once inside the limo, Alicia was given a card.

First stop: Nail salon.

"I didn't know what to think for sure," she said.

Back at the limo, another card: You are going to be going to the Mall of America. Pick out the outfit of your choice. P.S. don't forget to put it on.

"We got another envelope that said, ‘You're so beautiful, I love you so much, and relax because your driver is going to take you to your assigned destination.'"

Alicia arrived at Rice Park, with both her parents and Josh's in the park, holding bouquets of flowers.

"I lost it," she said.

Then, and a surprise that not even Joshua expected.

"I was sitting in the plaza and all of a sudden this choir comes walking through and I went into a little bit of a panic mode because I thought, uh oh, choir's here, what if Alicia doesn't see me?" Joshua said.

The Angelica Cantanti youth choir just so happened to walk onto park grounds after their rehearsal at the Ordway to take photos. This happened at the exact same moment Alicia walked over to greet her man.

"He got down on one knee, proposed and I said yes, of course," Alica said. "And this choir surrounded us and started singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow and I was like, ‘Josh did you get us a choir?' And he was like, ‘I didn't know anything about it, but let's just sit and listen.'"

A magical touch to a beautiful engagement -- a life milestone for the soon-to-be bride and groom.
