Dan Lehman says Dilly Bar during cold Gophers game wasn't 'psychological warfare'

Perhaps the most enduring image from the Gophers' 31-24 loss at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday was of a maroon-and-gold clad Dan Lehman eating a frozen Dilly Bar treat on the sidelines while snow fell around him.

The juxtaposition of ice cream and icy weather prompted SB Nation to quip that "the hardest part about pulling out a win in such a hostile environment is the psychological warfare employed by the seasoned locals."

But reached for comment today, Lehman, a telephone technician who works for the company that takes care of the coaches' headsets, says he was just hungry, not trying to get inside the heads of the Buckeyes on the Ohio State sideline.

"Ever since we moved into TCF Bank stadium, Dairy Queen has given the press area upstairs treats at halftime, and [my boss] grabs a treat on the way down, whatever we want, Dilly Bars or Buster Bars, and that game I just happened to ask him to bring me down a Dilly," Lehman tells us. "That's every game, regardless of weather."

We asked Lehman if he was surprised to see that images of him eating his Dilly went viral on social media.

"Yes, extremely surprised," he says, adding that perhaps the person enjoying his 15 minutes of internet fame the most is his youngest daughter, Devin (pictured above eating a Dilly with her dad).

"She's taking great pride in this too," Lehman says. "Between retweeting what everybody else is tweeting and hearing back from her friends, they think it's pretty funny, just like the rest of us do."
