Charges: 53-year-old Fridley man parties with young girls

A 53-year-old Fridley, Minn. man is accused of supplying alcohol and marijuana to underage girls, and apparently hosted parties at his house and at various Minnesota landmarks. He is also accused of housing a 16-year-old runaway without consent, and he didn't even know he had been charged (by summons) until we told him.

John Lewis Alverson has been involved in an Anoka County sheriff's office investigation since June 6, 2014 regarding these allegations of misconduct with young girls at his Fridley home. According to the investigation, the Facebook page "Bank Robbers Inc." was connected to his personal account and had various photos of 11- to 16-year-old girls posing with him at Mall of America, Target Field, the Minnesota State Fair, and other spots around the country including Kansas City, Dallas, Nashville, Indianapolis and somewhere in Mississippi. Most of the girls are his friends' children, Alverson claimed, and he denied ever giving them marijuana and alcohol. Charges indicate he had been having parties at his home and in hotels with them.

One of the girls in a Facebook photo was later identified as a reported runaway from Anoka County with an active warrant for her arrest, and police discovered she had been living with Alverson. On June 11, 2014, police executed a search warrant, but she wasn't there. Alverson admitted she had traveled with him to Indianapolis, but he believed he had parental consent. He also admitted she had been staying with him "when she had no other place to go," charges indicate.

Some would consider even hanging out with young girls inappropriate, but that's just what he does, he said.

"That's what I do. I take them places, Valley Fair, the State Fair. We do all kinds of stuff together," Alverson said.

He has been charged selling drugs to minors, deprivation of custodial rights and providing alcohol to minors. There are no allegations of sexual impropriety.
