Body of missing St. Cloud 6-year-old found near Mississippi River

St. Cloud police and Stearns County sheriff's officials focused their search for missing 6-year-old Hamza Elmi along the banks of the Mississippi River on Friday morning, and confirmed at about 11:40 a.m. that his body was found about 10 to 15 feet off shore, his pink scooter found near the river's edge earlier in the morning.

Hamza was last seen around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday evening in the 300 block of 8th Avenue North in St. Cloud. He has autism and is non-verbal, and police added he was believed to be traveling on the scooter found along the banks of the river. Police believe there is nothing suspicious about his disappearance and said he had several "hiding spots" he tended to visit.

"It’s possible Hamza may be hiding or run when approached so the St. Cloud Police Department is asking the public to search their properties and keep their eye out for a pink scooter or Hamza," St. Cloud police said in a news release.
