BIG WARM-UP: History of 'First 50s' in the Twin Cities

The forecast is teasing us with the chance of seeing our first 50 of the year.

The 50-degree bench mark is one of many milestones that "Cabin Fever" patients look for in their winter recovery. Thanks to a zonal flow in the jet and some warm air from the Pacific, the Upper Mid-west should be able to check off that milestone next week.

We are right on track for hitting our first big 5-0 close to the day that we normally first hit it, March 9th.

The earliest that we have hit this spring like number was in early January back in 2003. However, back in 1962 we had to wait until the 17th of April to experience our first 50°.

On a closing note, if you look at climatology, our first "Average" maximum temperature of 50° comes on April 1st, no fooling. Here is a list of how we fared the past 7 years.

One more "Firsts" facts. Our first 60 is on average is March 29th. So hang in there, this month will turn around quick.
