8-year-old skier seriously injured after fall from Spirit Mountain chairlift

An 8-year-old boy from Solon Springs, Wis. was seriously hurt after falling from a chairlift at Spirit Mountain in Duluth, Minn. on Friday.

Cameron Jones fell more than 25 feet that afternoon, the Pioneer Press reported, and suffered a fractured pelvis, fractured radius and ulna, fractured rib and liver laceration, along with other injuries. He was wearing a helmet.

He was skiing with other home school students and fell around 1 p.m. on the Spirit Express II chairlift near tower 9. He is being treated at St. Luke's hospital.

Spirit Mountain officials ski patrol said this was the second fall of the day. At about 11 a.m., another skier fell from the Spirit Express II chairlift near the top of the unload terminal and after receiving first aid on-scene and in the ski patrol room at the chalet, that skier was released. The two incidents were not related.
