$500 reward for arrest in shrapnel-laced hot dogs

The Lakeville Public Safety Foundation has issued a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person apparently leaving hot dogs embedded with screws, pins, pills and other items around the community, injuring several dogs.

Contact Detective Mike Lamm at (952) 985-4822 with any information.

Community on edge

Police confirmed a dog mysteriously died Sunday during a walk. X-rays showed no foreign objects inside the dog's stomach, but toxicology results are pending.

Meanwhile, residents near 205th Court West have located hot dog meat stuffed with pills and metal objects in backyards and driveways. At this point, police can't officially link the dog's death to the tainted hot dogs.

Lindsay Perez found screws, steel wool and safety pins lodged in hot dog pieces that her two dogs ate. Pablo swallowed 11 screws and is still hospitalized, while Yogi underwent an emergency procedure Saturday evening to remove three safety pins lodged inside his throat.

Neighbors say it's clear that someone is targeting their dogs, and they're sharing warnings on social media and through word of mouth.

"We think it's happening overnight when everyone's in bed and no one's around," Tess Gustafson said.

Lakeville police are treating these cases as a criminal investigation and any suspects will be charged with animal cruelty.
