Watch a MnDOT worker use a plunger to dispel floods on I-394

A plunger was the tool of choice for a Minnesota Department of Transportation crew member as flash flooding caused heavy rush hour backups on I-394 in Minneapolis on Tuesday.

The construction project along the interstate didn't help -- the asphalt is being stripped to resurface and repair lanes and several ramps between Minneapolis and St. Louis Park, prompting various lane reductions throughout the next few weeks. The rain caused particularly bad backups on I-394 eastbound at Penn Avenue, but workers cleared the drain in about an hour, finishing up just before 9 a.m. MnDOT officials said there were still “serious” backups and crews opened the MnPASS lane to relieve some of the traffic pressure.
