3 DIY skin care products from Seward Co-op

Product #1: Whipped Body Butter


· ½ cup Shea Butter

· ½ cup Cocoa Butter or Mango Butter

· ½ cup Coconut Oil

· ½ cup of jojoba

· 10-30 drops Vanilla Essential Oil


1. In a double boiler or glass bowl, combine all ingredients except essential oils.

2. Bring to medium heat and stir constantly until all ingredients are melted

3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly and add essential oils

4. Move to fridge and let cool another 1 hour or until starting to harden but still somewhat soft

5. Use a hand mixer to who[ for 10 minutes until fluffy

6. Return to fridge for 10-15 minutes to set

7. Store in a glass jar with a lid and use as you would regular lotion or body butter

Product #2: Lavender Bath Bombs


· 2 cups Baking Soda

· 1 Cup Citric Acid

· 1 Cup Corn Starch

· ½ Teaspoon Lavender Oil

· 1-2 Teaspoon Olive Oil

· Dried Lavender Flowers

· Water in a spray bottle

· Silicone Ice Cube Tray or Cup Cake Liners


1. Mix dry ingredients

2. Add the oils

3. Spray mixture until starts to clump together and has the feel of wet sand

4. Once mixed and damp, pack into molds as tight as possible

5. Remove and let stand 1-2 days

6. Once the bath bomb is done drying put into a bag with a decorative ribbon. Consider adding a tag with recipients name and special instructions on how to use

7. Drop into your hot bath and relax

Product #3: Beeswax Lip Balm


· ½ oz. (approx. 3 tsp.) grated or roughly chopped beeswax

· 1 oz. (approx. 6 tsp.) coconut oil

· 1 ½ tsp. lanolin

· ¾ tsp. Vitamin E

· 2 tsp. hard honey

· ¾ tsp. peppermint essential oil


1. In a small double boiler, medium low heat, melt beeswax, coconut oil, lanolin and vitamin E

2. Remove from heat and add honey and peppermint oil

3. Whisk well with chopstick and try to distribute oil throughout mixture

4. Pour quickly into tins or jars

Let cool on counter until hard
