Meet Harry Greenberg, "The Bike Realtor." He has been in the business for 8 years and over the last 6, he's sold a couple dozen homes from his bicycle.
"Half of my customers bike with me because they want to know okay, how do I get downtown on a bike?" he explained.
Greenberg said one of the great things about selling homes from your bicycle is that you get to experience the neighborhood the way you wouldn't otherwise, or, as he says, "You get to smell the neighborhood."
"We go from point A to point B and we talk. We talk about the roads, we talk about the neighborhoods and we talk about the specifically-designated bike routes," he said.
He operates mostly in south or northeast Minneapolis, but if you're wary of hopping on a bike to scope out homes, never fear.
"I don't prescribe anybody's behavior, you're welcome to drive a car. I'm not a zealot," he said.
He'll just tell you he'll meet you there. And he has no problem answering about their prospective neighborhoods.
"Is it bike friendly, are there stores nearby, and you know a lot of people don't want to rely on a car," he described.
To The Bike Realtor, this is more than just a way to make money. Life is just as much about the journey as it is to the destination – and the environment's health.
"I like to think I'm doing my share, I'm doing my piece," he said.
Greenberg says he's looking for some fresh faces to join him in his effort. If you'd like to learn more, shoot him an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
