The first case of dog flu in the Twin Cities was reported this week by the Animal Humane Society in St. Paul. The group says the dog is a Shar Pei mix and was adopted this week.

Test results came back positive for the H3N2 flu even though the dog showed no signs of illness. Dogs are not being accepted or adopted at the shelter until officials can confirm that no other animals are infected.

"We don't have any other reason to believe that we have influenza at any of our other sites, but we are under an abundance of caution going to follow some additional for any animals that have kennel cough in our care for our K9s," said AHS president and CEO Janelle Dixon.

The dog, named Toga, has recovered well and is at home with his adoptive family.
