Brooklyn Park police said Corrianah Wright was found dead in the deep end of the pool around 1 a.m. at Windsor Park Apartments at 7821 Zane Avenue North. Police began searching around 10 p.m. and said they checked the pool a few times but didn't see anything as it was dark and difficult to see in the water. Both entrances to the pool are equipped with locks.
"The lack of clarity of the pool water contributed to the late finding of the child," a news release from the Hennepin County sheriff's office said.
She was last seen with a handful of family friends, most of them kids between ages 7 and 15 with no parents on-hand. She doesn't live at the complex, but the kids had been playing at the pool Sunday afternoon and left between 8 and 8:30 p.m., the girl's mother said. When the kids returned home, they realized Corrianah wasn't with them. After hours of searching, they called police around 10 p.m. who first checked the pool, but her body wasn't discovered until they conducted another search around 1 a.m.
"What was deceiving is that the pool is extremely murky at the bottom and you just couldn't see to the bottom of the pool, so until we had gone and looked at the bottom of the pool, we didn't find her," Brooklyn Park Police Deputy Chief Mark Bruley said.
