2 seriously injured in Metro Transit squad crash in Minneapolis

Two people were seriously injured when a Metro Transit SUV and another car crashed at the 8th Street South and Park Avenue intersection on Saturday night while Metro Transit responded to an emergency call.

Around 10:30 p.m., the Metro Transit squad was responding to an emergency call from a Metro Transit bus driver who had activated a silent alarm. The squad was heading northbound, lights and siren activated, on Park Avenue when it crashed with a Suzuki Forenza traveling east on 8th Street. The Suzuki then struck the Hennepin County Medical Center building.

The pair in the Suzuki, driver 24-year-old Rahma Hassan and 30-year-old Amina Jama, both of Minneapolis, suffered serious injuries. There was no alcohol detected on Hassan or Jama and it is unknown if they were wearing seatbelts. The two officers were left with non-life threatening injuries and all 4 were brought to HCMC. The two in the Suzuki are listed in satisfactory condition. The officer's names have not been released.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.
