2 dead after shooting in S. Minneapolis, suspect at large

Two men have died after a double shooting in south Minneapolis near Chicago and Franklin avenues on Saturday night.

Police responded around 10:30 p.m. on a report of shots fired and found two men with apparent gunshot wounds at the scene. The suspect had fled from the area before officers arrived. Both victims were taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center where one later died, police said Sunday morning.

Police confirmed the second man died Sunday afternoon at HCMC. He was initially transported to the hospital in "very serious condition."

 Saturday morning, Antonio Fransion Jenkins was arrested for the double murder that occurred last weekend in the area of Franklin Avenue and Chicago Avenue.

Jenkins has been booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center on two counts of Probable Cause Murder.

The arrest in this case highlights the strong working relationship between the Minneapolis Police Department Violent Offender Task Force, Weapons Unit, Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, and our law enforcement partners at the Minneapolis Park Police, Metro Transit Police, and the Department of Corrections.
