Emotions were running high Tuesday morning outside of the Sherburne County courthouse in Elk River, Minn., where about a dozen animal lovers showed their support for Draco the dog.
The dog's alleged killer, Anthony Sather, appeared in court for a pretrial hearing. Sather is accused of smiling as he tortured and eventually killed his girlfriend's dog. The Princeton, Minn. man was arrested in January after his girlfriend discovered videos on a computer showing the incident.
"All dogs want to do is love you, and he was tortured by a very sick person who will easily be on the street in two years," said Justice for Draco supporter Nina Lott. "It starts with animals and leads to people."
The Justice for Draco group on Facebook has more than 1,600 members. They plan to be in court for Sather's trial next Thursday, and are hoping for the maximum sentence.
