In January, developers announced the two oldest buildings that comprise Nye's Polonaise Room in northeast Minneapolis will be saved, but it's unclear what will be going inside. The bar hasn't announced closing time.
In December, Nye's owners announced the 65-year-old Polish polka and piano fixture would close. Owner Rob Jacobs confirmed the venue's two oldest buildings – each 100 years old -- will be saved an incorporated into "retail," which will sit next to a 29-story apartment tower. Jacobs is a partner in the development, along with Schafer Richardson.
The three-story building with the "Harness Shop" sign on top and a two-story building that goes around the corner will be salvaged, the Star Tribune reported. The project is being called 116 East Hennepin.
Plenty of nostalgia poured out from the community upon the announcement of the restaurant's closure.
