Wisconsin smells, several residents even said so. A smell so pungent in a Polk County village prompted residents to call local officials and get to the bottom of it. It turned out to be dairy manufacturer.
According to the Osceola Sun, the sewer-like odor came from F & A Dairy's pond in Dresser, known as "The Lagoon." Village president Bryan Beseler said the odor has been bad this year, and it was bad last year. At a board meeting, he presented the Wisconsin DNR with a draft resolution, reminding them that that they are the ones responsible for managing the pond.
Dresser's population is just shy of 900, but nearby Osceola with a population of about 2,500 has also received several smell complaints. They requested a written plan from the DNR regarding the agency's plans for future maintenance. Legally, Osceola's input doesn't count, but board chair Doug Schmidt said the DNR will be made aware of their request.
