UW-River Falls trio invents $25K-winning 'SoPOD'

UW-River Falls students won $25,000 in a Wisconsin Big Idea competition, and they're cleaning up the environment with their idea.

Their slogan: Ditch the plastic and feel fantastic with SoPOD.

Eric Wenz, AJ Lind and An Trieu comprise the young team behind the concept. They're still college students at UW-River Falls, and won $25,000 in seed money when their idea took first place at the Wisconsin Big Idea tournament.

They're not technically a company yet, but their idea is certainly as big as the tournament's name suggests. The SoPOD is a pod of soap encapsulated in a film that dissolves in water. They hope to use that prize money to one day put SoPODs in hotel rooms in place of tiny, wasteful bottled soap and shampoo. It's an environmentally friendly and convenient way to stay clean, the trio says.
