'Suspicious' death in Oak Park Heights now ruled a homicide

The Oak Park Heights Police Department is investigating the death of a man as a homicide after initially calling it "suspicious" on Tuesday. Police said they couldn't locate the man during a welfare check on Sunday, and he was found dead in his town house early Tuesday morning.

On Sunday, officers responded to a family request for a welfare check for 39-year-old Nils Christian Johnson at the town home development on the 14600 block of 62nd Street. Family members were not able to reach him, and officers couldn't find him either, so they initiated a missing person investigation. Early Tuesday morning, officers returned to the town home and found his body.

Police have not made any arrests but said this does not appear to be a random act and there is no danger to the public. This is the first homicide in Oak Park Heights since October of 1998.
