A 19-year-old man from Cambridge, Minnesota has been charged with the stabbing death of a Wisconsin father after an argument on the St. Croix River turned into a fatal confrontation. Levi Acre-Kendall turned himself in to the Polk County sheriff's office Thursday afternoon. He made an initial court appearance Friday on charges of first-degree reckless homicide.What happened
Peter Kelly, 34, of St. Croix Falls, Wis. was stabbed at Interstate Park on Tuesday night. The Polk County sheriff said an argument had ensued for several hours between two fishermen near the boat landing on the Minnesota side of the river and a group of 3 men on the Wisconsin side.Kelly and his friend on the Minnesota side were arguing with the men on the Wisconsin side at about 6:30 p.m. Over the next several hours, "the verbal skirmish escalated" and the two left the Minnesota side of the park to confront the trio. A brief physical confrontation occurred, and Kelly was fatally stabbed. He died at the scene moments later and Acre-Kendall's group quickly fled in two separate vehicles.
The Polk County district attorney said young men with Acre-Kendall at the time of the stabbing being are being treated as cooperating witnesses, not suspects.How to help the family
