The Minnesota Court of Appeals has upheld the murder conviction of Jeffery Trevino. The court found "the evidence is sufficient to sustain Trevino's conviction," in the Feb. 2013 murder of his wife, Kira Steger.
It's been nearly two years since Kira disappeared. Her body was found in the Mississippi River, months after her disappearance.
The defense team appealed the second-degree murder conviction and strong sentence, claiming circumstantial evidence was used to convict Trevino, and that the judge failed to give the jury instructions about the law on circumstantial evidence.
Trevino's prison release date remains June 2031.
