Lakeville, Minn. twin sisters back from Iditarod

Mushers are racing across Alaska right now in the Iditarod, and twin sisters from Lakeville, Minn. helped kick off the dog sled race. 14-year olds Carla and Chloe Beatty got into dog sled racing 4 years ago on a trip to the Gunflint Trail. When they got home, they started training their cocker spaniels to pull sleds.

Now the girls have a kennel full of sled dogs, with their sights on the biggest race in the country. Last week, the twins got to ride on the sleds of two racers in the Iditarod, during the ceremonial start of the race.

"I think that it inspired us more to do it because they've done it, and now knowing that we can," the girls said.

The sisters have to wait until they're 18 to compete in the Iditarod, and they have to earn a spot in the race. The Beatty sisters have 4 years and a lot of training ahead of them.
